Coronavirus has dramatically changed the way photographers can do their job. With lockdowns in place around the world, how do you adapt when you can’t visit your subjects in person? The answer is in your pocket.
Facetime Photoshoots
Photographers all across the world are collaborating with models to capture their photos virtually on video chat apps like Messenger, Zoom, and Facetime!
Laurent Castellani Facetime Photoshoots
Today we’re taking a look at the creative, and brilliant approach of Facetime photoshoots from Laurent Castellani. If you want to learn more about Laurent, we recommend this great interview from Noise Mag.
Laurent Castellani works with what he has to create beautiful and engaging portraits through Facetime on the iPhone and Macbook Pro.
How does this work?
Laurent shares that he documents his subjects using a Macbook Pro and taking screenshots. The models are typically on an iPhone during the Facetime call. The newer the iPhone, the higher quality the camera.
He directs the models in terms of location, clothing, attitude/mood, and light. Laurent also gets creative adding noise and grain to help solidify the themes of his photos.
He calls his Facetime photoshoots ‘a way to stay creative, even in a confined space’.
Having completed more than 30 photoshoots with models over Facetime in the past few months, Laurent is an expert and has some interesting approaches. Take a look at his Facetime Photoshoots below!
