How did Free Nature Stock Start?

The entire project started almost by accident. On a whim, I bought my first DSLR in 2012 and was blown away by how many stars I could photograph at night. What began as a side hobby has turned into an incredible passion that I enjoy sharing. Coincidentally, my Milky Way photos and videos tend to be the most popular downloads.
Free Nature Stock focuses solely on the outdoors. Since my main job is web development, this project has been an excuse to venture away from WiFi and into the woods. I spend several hours each week capturing, processing, and uploading new content to Free Nature Stock.
The new videos category is a combination of 4K and HD time-lapse, slow-motion, and real-time footage. Some of the clips required additional equipment, such as motion controllers and gimbals, which has been fun to learn. So far, the free time-lapse videos seem to be the most liked.
My main goal with the site has been making it extremely easy for anyone to download and use the stock resources right away. There’s no need for attribution, no sign-ups required, and no other hoops to jump through. It’s so rewarding to see Free Nature Stock photos and videos used in a wide variety of ways, everywhere from Instagram to travel blogs to YouTube videos like this one:
