As we all know, creating After Effects projects can be time-consuming. Building off of templates and working with helpful motion design tools, you can create a much better project, and quicker.
Many of you have probably used After Effects templates in the past, but have you thought about creating any of your own? Even further – have you ever thought about how much your After Effects templates could help other creators?
A great way to help out these other creators while also earning some extra money is to sell your custom After Effects Templates on FilterGrade!
Obviously finding big projects to work on with world-famous brands is always the goal, but selling your Motion Design Templates is a great way to monetize your work and help pay the bills during those dry months when you may not be working with as many clients.
Today, we’ll take you through how to start selling your After Effects templates on FilterGrade!
Before You Start Selling
Before you can start selling your own custom After Effects Templates, you’ll need to have first created your templates.
Chances are, if you’re interested in selling your After Effects templates, you’re familiar with what they may look like or how they work, but if not – don’t worry. Here is a super easy tutorial to get started in After Effects:
Once you’ve created your After Effects template(s), you’ll need to fill out an application to start selling your presets on FilterGrade here! Within 1-4 business days, a FilterGrade team member will get back to you regarding your application. If you’ve been approved, you’ll be able to start selling immediately!
Selling Your After Effects Templates
Getting your product(s) set up on FilterGrade is super easy. It won’t take much time at all if you already have your template pack put together!
Once you’ve been approved to start selling on FilterGrade, log in to your Vendor Account and then click on ‘Products‘ on the left-hand side of your screen, under the ‘Vendor‘ tab. You will see the screen below, where you can click on ‘Create Product‘ to get started.
Next, you’ll go to the screen below. Here, you can add your Product Name and your Product Description, and you can Set the Price of your product!
Product Name
While creating your Product Name, we recommend using your own name or your brand name to differentiate yourself from other creators! We also have found that thinking about what your customer would search for is helpful when thinking of a title for your product. Think – ‘if I were to search for a product like this online, what would I type in?’ See an example below:
Product Description
Next, go ahead and scroll down a bit – you’ll see an area to type up your Product Description. Feel free to share with your audience what benefits your product has to offer and how it can help them improve their video projects.
It’s also a good idea to include how many templates are in your folder, what format they are, and any other helpful tips or tricks for using your template(s)! Customers also enjoy when you include what software your product is compatible with in your description so they know if they can use it or not!
*Note* – DO NOT add any images into the Product Description section – you will do this in another section below!
Here’s an example below:
It’s also a great idea to include links to your portfolio whenever you say who created the product! This a great way to get a back-link from FilterGrade and can help drive more traffic to your portfolio.
Setting Your Price
Next up, you’ll need to Fill in the Price for your product! We recommend anywhere from $6 – $70+. This depends on the quality of your product, how many templates are included in your product, and how high of a demand there is for your product.
Uploading Your After Effects Templates
Now that you have added your Product Name and Product Description, and you’ve finished Setting the Price, you’re ready to Upload your After Effects Template(s) into the Digital Assets Portal.
Feel free to drag and drop your .zip folder, paste a link, or browse through your folders and upload your After Effects Templates manually.
After uploading your After Effects template(s), it will look like the screen below, with the Product Name filled in (feel free to edit this if it is not correct).
Adding Your Cover Image & Product Previews
You’re almost done – now you need to show off your product! Go ahead and Add in Your Product Cover Image, as well as any Before/After Photos or Video Previews/GIFs. You can create these however you would like. But if you need some help, download our quick-and-easy before/after photo template below:
Creating Preview Images is a great way to show customers how your product will look before actually buying it, but creating a Preview/Demo Video is always a better way to show how the motion graphics will look in your product!
Below, we’ve included some of our favorite product cover images and demo gifs/previews to help give you some inspiration!

Select Categories for Your Product
You’ve finished adding your previews, and now it’s time to finalize the product. Select Categories for Your Product to make sure that it can be found when users search for your style!
We ask that you select no more than 3 categories to make sure that each product is not spread across all of the categories :)
Add Tags to Your Product
The last step on our list is to Add Tags to Your Product. This is a great way to boost your product in search so that you show up for certain keywords. For example, adding your name as a tag is always a good idea. If one of your fans tries to search directly for your name, your products will show up!
One thing to note about tags is that you DO NOT want to use too many tags or else Google will notice this and pull your listing back so it is seen less. We recommend adding no more than 25-30 tags per product.
