How to Sell Your Lightroom Presets

How to Sell Lightroom Presets - FilterGrade

As a photographer, there have been way too many nights where I find myself in front of my computer at 2 a.m, thinking about my next edit while in Lightroom. Many of you can probably relate to this. Like myself, you might be wondering how you can make some money off of all those hours of lost sleep. Selling your Lightroom Presets is a really great way to start earning passive income for yourself using the assets and skills that you learned behind the scenes.

We all know that finding clients and shooting those big, campaign projects is the main goal. But selling your Lightroom Presets is a great way to monetize your work and help pay the bills during those dry months when you may not be shooting as much.

Today we’ll be taking you through how to sell your lightroom presets.

Before You Start Selling Your Presets

Before you can start selling your own, custom Lightroom Presets, you’ll need to have first created your presets.

Chances are, if you’re interested in selling your Lightroom Presets, you know how to make them, but if not – do not worry. Here is a super easy tutorial to create your own Lightroom Presets:

Once you’ve created your Lightroom Presets, you’ll need to fill out an application to start selling your presets on FilterGrade here! Within 1-4 business days, a FilterGrade team member will get back to you regarding your application. If you’ve been approved, you’ll be able to start selling immediately!

Selling Your Lightroom Presets

Getting your product(s) set up on FilterGrade is super easy. It won’t take much time at all if you already have your preset pack put together!

Once you’ve been approved to start selling on FilterGrade, click on ‘Products‘ on the left-hand side of your screen, under the ‘Vendor‘ tab. You will see the screen below, where you can click on ‘Create Product‘ to get started.

Next, you’ll go to the screen below. Here, you can add your Product Name and your Product Description, and you can Set the Price of your product!

Product Name

While creating your Product Name, we recommend using your own name or your brand name as well as the style of presets you’ll be creating. See an example below:

An easy formula to follow is: NAME + STYLE + LR PRESETS

Product Description

Next, go ahead and scroll down a bit – you’ll see an area to type up your Product Description. Feel free to share with your audience what benefits your product has to offer and how it can help them improve their photos.

It’s also a good idea to include how many presets are in your folder, what format your presets are saved as (.lrtemplate, .xmp, .dng), and any other helpful tips or tricks for using your presets!

*Note* – DO NOT add any images into the Product Description section – you will do this in another section below!

Here’s an example below:

It’s also a great idea to include links to your portfolio whenever you say who created the product! This a great way to get a back-link from FilterGrade and can help drive more traffic to your portfolio.

Setting Your Price

Next up, you’ll need to Fill in the Price for your product! We recommend anywhere from $6 – $70+. This depends on the quality of your product, how many presets are in your product, and how high of a demand there is for your product.

Starting out with a sale price can help boost engagement and reel customers in!

Uploading Your Lightroom Presets

Now that you have added your Product Name and Product Description, and you’ve finished Setting the Price, you’re ready to Upload your Lightroom Presets into the Digital Assets Portal.

Feel free to drag and drop your .zip folder, paste a link, or browse through your folders and upload your Lightroom Presets manually.

After uploading your Lightroom Presets, it will look like the screen below, with the Product Name filled in (feel free to edit this if it is not correct).

Adding Your Cover Image + Before/After Previews

You’re almost done – now you need to show off your product! Go ahead and Add in Your Before/After Images as well as your Product Cover Image. You can create these however you would like. But if you need some help, download our quick-and-easy before/after photo template below:

Select Categories for Your Product

You’ve finished adding your previews, and now it’s time to finalize the product. Select Categories for Your Product to make sure that it can be found when users search for your style!

We ask that you select no more than 3 categories to make sure that each product is not spread across all of the categories :)

Add Tags to Your Product

The last step on our list is to Add Tags to Your Product. This is a great way to boost your product in search so that you show up for certain keywords. For example, adding your name as a tag is always a good idea. If one of your fans tries to search directly for your name, your products will show up!

One thing to note about tags is that you DO NOT want to use too many tags or else Google will notice this and pull your listing back so it is seen less. We recommend adding no more than 25-30 tags per product.
