BLACK AND CHROME

Add a sleek, classic, black and white (or, Black and Chrome) look to your film, music video, commercial, or other video/film project. This black and white look is very stylistic, and is less “contrasty” than some other monochrome looks. The purpose of this LUT is to take away the color from the image and add texture to skin tones and mid-tones. The LUT is primarily based on the films Good Night and Good Luck, Mad Max: Fury Road: Black and Chrome Edition, and Mank. The LUT was created for a short film that will be released this summer, and was built primarily for the BlackmagicRAW Gen5 color profile, but has been modified to fit other RAW cameras.

For more ease of use, the filmmaker or colorist should color-transform footage to ACES or BlackmagicRAW to better match the footage and the LUT, however, it is still recommended that the filmmaker does their own tweaking. A LUT should get the image only 80% there to the final image–the filmmaker should go and tweak individual shots to perfectly suit the film.

• ARRIRAW – LogC Color profile for ARRI cameras
• RedcodeRAW – Recommended for RED Cameras
• ACES – Recommended for all cameras to unify color space

If you do not see your color profile depicted, shoot in the flattest color profile possible to achieve maximum results.
