The DJI Mavic drone series has long been a favorite among drone lovers, aerial photographers, and filmmakers alike.
The newly announced DJI Mavic 4 Pro, released globally on May 13, 2025, is no exception, boasting a suite of groundbreaking features that solidify its position as a top-tier camera drone.
However, a significant challenge exists for enthusiasts and professionals in the United States: the Mavic 4 Pro is not available for sale in the U.S. at launch, leaving many to wonder why. Even the links to it on DJI websites in America go to a 404 page. What’s going on?
Why No US Launch?
The absence of a U.S. release for the Mavic 4 Pro comes from a complex interplay of trade policies and current issues related to US/China trade relations. While DJI has secured the necessary FCC certification and there isn’t a current outright ban on their products, the prevailing tariffs on Chinese goods imposed by the previous administration appear to be a major factor. These tariffs have significantly increase the cost of importing DJI products, potentially making the Mavic 4 Pro too expensive for the company to sell at this time. Depending on how things change with the tariffs, hopefully the drones will be available to US consumers soon.
A DJI spokesperson stated, “The DJI Mavic 4 Pro will not be available for sale in the U.S. upon its global launch on May 13. Like many global companies, we have had to adjust our market strategy as local conditions and the industry environment have evolved. While we do not have a timeline for when we can introduce the product to the U.S. market, we are closely monitoring the situation and actively exploring every possible solution.”
Furthermore, there have been reports of U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) increasing scrutiny on DJI imports, with investigations into whether their products are made using forced labor. This added layer of complexity and potential delays further complicates the U.S. market entry for the Mavic 4 Pro.
Interestingly, despite DJI’s official stance, some U.S. retailers like Adorama and B&H briefly listed the Mavic 4 Pro for preorder, and DJI’s New York City store reportedly had units for sale. However, these listings have since been removed or marked as preorders with uncertain fulfillment, suggesting a limited initial import that doesn’t represent a full U.S. launch.

This could be a sign of good news to come. According to Reuters, ‘on Monday after the U.S. and China agreed to slash steep tariffs for at least 90 days’, so this could be a hopeful indication of increased shipments for products like the DJI Mavic 4 Pro to become available very soon in the United States.
Bringing a Mavic 4 Pro purchased overseas into the U.S. is also discouraged due to potential tariffs at customs for items valued over $800 and the possibility of voiding the limited warranty.
