Automatic Tone Mapping and New Color Workflows Come to Premiere Pro and After Effects
This week, updates to Adobe Premiere Pro and Adobe After Effects are providing some great professional-level updates to these video editing programs, especially in regard to color!
Premiere Pro
Automatic Tone Mapping: Automatic tone mapping is a new tool for simplifying color workflows. It will ensure that the footage in your sequence maintains a consistent color, even if it comes from various cameras. It can even work with a mixture of color spaces, matching the tone no matter where it comes from.
Sequence Locking for Offline Editing: Premiere’s collaboration tools have come a long way over the last few years. The latest update allows users to edit team projects while offline, all without creating conflicting versions of the project.
Speech to Text: Speech to Text is now available in 16 languages includes the newly-added Dutch, Norwegian, and Swedish.
Reset Options: There are new options available when resetting Premiere Pro. It allows users to automate formerly manual system maintenance and cleanup tasks.
After Effects
OpenColorIO (OCIO) and Academy COlor Encoding System (ACES) Color Management: This new integration allows After Effects users to work natively with the Academy Color Encoding System (ACES). This is a free, open, device-independent color management system that aims to be the industry standard for color management in filmmaking. This is a huge upside for production companies and VFX artists. They now have deeper access to a post-production pipeline using color-accurate content. You can access this by navigating to Project > Project Settings > Color > Color Management and under the Color Engine dropdown select “OCIO color managed”.
